MEA Direct Entry First Officers - 2009
Introduction
MEA is inviting applications from young, motivated, hard working, and creative Lebanese nationals to train as First Officers (co-pilots). They will be required to function as part of the flight crew (pilots) of modern aircraft on MEA’s state of the art new fleet.
The airline pilot’s profession requires the display of mental and physical skills as well as high integrity and personality traits such as discipline and high moral values. Airline pilots should be good team players and should be able to adapt to work within a multi national environment and international training and work regulations.
Suitable applicants will be required to undergo a selection process which will determine their suitability for the position of a First Officer. This selection process is in several stages. Moving to a following stage is conditional on passing the previous one. This process shall include personality, medical and licencing exams and evaluations in Lebanon and abroad. The cost of these exams and all expenses shall be borne by the applicant.

The following pages contain the information required to take you through the selection process. MEA reserves the right to change the information below if and when MEA deem necessary.

1. General Requirements
A. Lebanese Nationality B. Military service completion or permanent exemption a. Applicants who are expecting to be finally and permanently exempted may apply b. Official exemption documents must be presented before contractual arrangements C. Recent and clean judicial record D. Medically fit E. Prepared to undergo rigorous medical testing, theoretical, and flight training F. Holder of ICAO approved Airline Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL) - fixed wing, obtained without exemptions with passess in all ground examinations from top ranked approved and internationally recognized pilot training organizations G. Holder of the following technical and medical certificates a. A valid Multi Engine Instrument Rating (IR), b. Aeronautical Radiotelephony (RT) licence, and c. A Lebanese Class One Medical H. Multi Crew Cooperation Course (MCC) certificate I. Airbus 320 family type rating is an asset
2. Age
A. Minimum age: 19 years B. Maximum age: 32 years
3. Physical Requirements
A. Acceptable physical appearance B. Height: minimum 170 cm (males) and 168 cm (females) C. Weight: appropriate to height D. Body Mass Index (BMI) should be within acceptable limits

5. Education
Lebanese Baccalaureate - Higher education is an asset

8. Suitable Candidates will be required to undergo aptitude, personality, medical and licencing exams and evaluations in Lebanon and abroad. The cost of these exams and all expenses will be borne by the applicant

II. Application:
1. Download and complete the application form
- You do NOT need to inquire about the status of your application; candidates will be notified by email to proceed to next step as required. Make sure you provide 2 email addresses and assure that your inbox is not full.
- Deadlines MUST be respected.
- All information must be correct. Any false declaration, whenever discovered, will result in annulment of your application and/or selection process
- If your application meets the requirements it will be acknowledged; you will be emailed with questions which you are required to answer by replying within a deadline specified in the email. Failing to do so may annul your application. - You will NOT receive a confirmation to your answers and you are required to continue the application process as below.

A. The file must be arranged in the order specified in item VII below. Any file received in a different order may be subject to delay in processing and the applicant may not be called for the exam B. - Selection process shall be completed in stages as below. Moving to the next stage is conditional on passing the previous one

- All tests, examinations, interview, medical (etc..) results are the property of MEA and will not be revealed to applicants or any other person, or organization
- MEA decision is final and is not subject to dispute or justification
1. Basic written examinations (Location, date & time to be advised)
2. Initial medical examination As soon as you are notified that you have passed the academic examination, you will be given an appointment with MEA Chief Medical Officer for preliminary medical examination.
3. Job suitability & Assessment Schedule The following tests are designed to assess your suitability to perform pilot duties. They include mental, sensory, interactive and emotional capabilities. They will evaluate your academic potential to cope with ground school as well as your physical ability to fly aircraft.
- Review of Biographical Questionnaire: Each applicant shall be provided with a biographical data form prior to the assessment, which must be completed and presented at the commencement of the assessment. Location, date and time to be advised.
- Personality and Attitude Assessment designed to identify the degree of personality characteristics such as introversion/extraversion, dominance/timidity, stability/instability, caution/risk-taking, etc.. An assessment of flight management attitudes will be administered for ready entry – applicants.
- Aptitude Tests (computer-based and/or paper-pencil) designed to assess logical reasoning, attention control, perceptual speed, memory function and spatial orientation.
- Psychomotor Tests designed to assess psychomotor coordination abilities, multi-tasking capacities, stress resistance and reaction times.
- Although we expect all applicants to have at least university entrance level regarding mathematics, physics and English there will also be checks in these subjects.
- Psychological Interview: Experts will conduct an interview with each applicant, with the nature of the questions customised according to the results of the preceding tests.
- Final Decision: Experts will assess the potential in all relevant areas and then determine a final rating, that is designed to reflect the training and career risk (if any) for each application
Important notices: - Location ,Time and Date to be advised - All details and explanations will be given in the briefing sessions before the tests. - Please make sure you know the date, time and location of your test which will be provided to you.
4. Interviews: Time and location will be notified
5. Medical examination at MEA specified medical center
- You will be notified about the location in due time.
- You have to report at the specified date at 08:00 and you should be fasting (no eating or drinking after 10 pm of the previous night).
- You should have your Lebanese ID card with you on the day of the examination.
- You have to clearly fill in and sign the medical form given to you at the medical institution.
- You have to provide detailed reports about surgeries/medical operations you previously did and present them to medical institution representative.
- Results should be within internationally acceptable limits. Results outside acceptable limits are disqualifying.
- All medical results are confidential and are the property of MEA
This is a complete medical profile examination which includes but not limited to:
A. Complete blood test: CBC, FBS, HbA1C, Lipid profile, HIV, HbsAg B. Urinalysis C. Echocardiography: EEG (electro-encephalogram); ECG stress and cardiac U/S; Stress/Echo/Doppler D. Chest X ray E. Eye examination (phorias) F. Sight: a. Near vision: correction not acceptable b. Good and stable distant vision: minor correction up to 1 degree with 100% correction is acceptable c. Astigmatism and/or daltonism (color blindness) are not acceptable d. LASIK and/or vision correction eye surgeries are not acceptable and are disqualifying G. Audiogram H. Speech deficiency (stuttering) I. Family history of metabolic nutritional and endocrine disorders J. Heart deficiencies and diseases are disqualifying L.Congenital diseases must be declared and will be considered on case by case basis

IV. CONTRACTUAL & FINANCIAL
1. Contract
A. Validity: 10 years B. Starting salary as “First Officer” is approximately US$ 2,600.00
2. Cost of training Type rating: US$ 60,000.00 (estimated)
- For the purpose of the type rating the candidate is required to provide a personal
guarantee from any sponsor acceptable to MEA.
- Type rating costs will be considered as debt to the student. It shall be waived
when contract obligations are fully respected by the student. A legal bond shall be signed.
3. Insurance
The student is required to have a personal accident (including flying risks as a student pilot) and temporary life insurance for the amount of US$ 60,000.00 naming MEA as the sole beneficiary. MEA will provide the insurance and debit the students accounts.
